The day after Christmas was the last day the Canche fam were in town. They always spend a week in Michigan with David's family over Christmas as well, so they were flying out early Thursday in that direction.

On Wednesday, the kids got up early. They played with their new Christmas toys. The day after Christmas is such a fun day for kids!

I fed them breakfast and got them dressed and then I woke up Jonathan so I could shower and get out the door. My mom and sisters and I were headed to our friend Linda's house for her annual Christmas brunch. Yum.

Jonathan hadn't felt very good on Christmas. It was such a bummer. He had that head cold thing that I had a couple weeks ago and spent Christmas afternoon napping. I let him sleep in on the 26th as long as I could. After getting ready to go to Linda's, I set up the kids with a VHS tape (yes, VHS) in the basement so Jonathan could lay on the sofa while they watched "Clip Clop: A Day with Horses"
which was made in the early 90s (if the clothes are any indication).

Linda made a delicious and elaborate brunch as always. It felt so weird that Corinne wasn't there but it was nice to get some time w adults without all the children around (-:

While we ate, uncle David and Jonathan manned the six kids. Grandma and grandpa went over to
lend a hand and I'm sure they were a huge help. Jonathan was putting Jay down for a nap and grandma and grandpa were feeding Calla and Kelsey and Haley lunch when we got back.

That afternoon, Jonathan put Kelsey down for a nap (and took one himself) while I helped Katelyn and mom whip the house into shape. It looked like a tornado had gone through....there were countless cardboard boxes and gift bags everywhere , not to mention all of Katelyn and my gifts strewn around.

We devoted our afternoon to getting the house back to pre-Christmas cleanliness. That evening mom had invited Grandma and Grandpa and her brother Keith, my aunt Susan, and my cousins over for dinner. We don't get together with extended family on Christmas Day anymore, so I was so grateful to have a night when I could see everyone.

The company arrived at 5:30ish. Kelly and Kim and their families came over too. We did our best to keep our eye on Haley and Emily while David and Katelyn packed up all their stuff.

Mom served appetizers and then we ate at 6:30 or so. I'm not sure what got into Jay, but he was a complete crank by the time dinner was served. Jonathan and I alternated eating and restraining Jay like he was some sort of untamed animal (picture shrieking and back-arching). We stuffed some dinner down his throat and then Jonathan put him to bed.

Calla and Kelsey stayed up a bit longer. They had so many babies to oodle over...baby Emily and Ellie and my cousin Katie's son Wyeth. He was born in May.

After dinner we visited some more and then I put the girls to bed. By 9 or so our company left and Katelyn and Dad and David and Caleb and I played a game of Settlers.

Afterwards, Caleb taught Katelyn and Mom and I a new game called "Bang" which i really liked. We'll have to play it again.

We went to bed at midnight. I think katelyn had to get up at 3AM. Three hours of sleep sounds pretty miserable to me but I guess she held up okay (-:

It was sad saying goodbye to Haley and Emily. It always is.

Christmas Day

Christmas morning was beautiful. There was snow on the ground and the wooded scene outside the sunroom was a very picturesque background to our present opening.

The Canche family sleeps in, so Jonathan and I decided we'd open gifts with just our little family when we woke up . Mimi was already awake and working on breakfast in the kitchen, so she ducked in and took a few photos for us.

Calla read the Christmas story for us before we began Opening presents. She has read it so many times that she has it memorized now.

Then we had our annual diaper change-off. haha just kidding...

Every Christmas, Mom makes a big breakfast. Since Katelyn and my families stay at the house, we got to enjoy the breakfast along with Caleb this year.

After breakfast, I took a shower and we got ready for our day. We tidied up the sunroom and helped mom clean up the kitchen. At 11:30am, Corinne arranged to get on Skype in Jinja, Uganda and so we gathered around the laptop to talk to her for an hour or so.

The girls took turns poking their heads in to say hi.

THE BIG REVEAL. While we were skyping Corinne, Kelly and Josh gave us each a cupcake. They had found out their baby's gender the week before and wanted to surprise us with the big reveal for part of our Christmas gift. We were SO EXCITED. Jonathan ended up with the M & M that revealed that they are having a ....BABY GIRL!

I am so so excited for her!

It was so fun that Corinne could be in on the big news (-:

After skyping Corinne, we had some downtime. Mom-mom ( my dad's mom) came over and gave us presents and we visited for awhile. Then Kelsey and Jay and Haley took naps. Calla played with her toys and asked us 6,384 times when we were going to open more gifts.

At 3 or so, Kim and Kelly and their families returned and we started the present opening! All the kids were awake which in retrospect made for a pretty noisy gift time but it was nice nobody missed out!

The adults exchanged presents and we gave gifts to mom and dad. Grandma and grandpa Showed up and played with the kids while the adults opened more gifts. (we are "gift people" I would say!!) Then Mimi got dinner on the table while Grandma and Grandpa gave out their gifts.

below: One of Calla's gifts from Mimi was a big "art supply bin' full of art supplies. She unwrapped each one so carefully. She was very excited. She had asked Santa for "art stuff."
below: another favorite gift was this apron Kimberly made Calla....Kimmi is the crafty one for sure (-: She made gifts for the nieces and her sisters

below: One of Kelsey's favorite gifts was this baby food kit from aunt Kelly. She said "it's so beautiful!" when she opened it

Finally at 6pm we sat down for dinner. Christmas dinner was delicious, albeit a little hectic with all the children. It really is a far cry from even just two years ago when Calla and Kelsey were the only little ones around. The volume of the toddlers (Haley and Jay and Clark) is probably most to blame!
below: dinner....

below: Jay playing with his favorite gift after dinner. He loved this ball popper from Mimi and Pops.

After dinner we had some dessert. Then we sat and visited as best we could with all the children around. Some of the men played games. We also opened our gifts from aunt Corinne. She had ordered and mailed everybody presents!! Calla, Kelsey and Haley opened the cutest matching denium dresses. I will have to upload a pic tomorrow. Jay and Clark got cute outfits too.

At 8:00 or so, we said goodbye to Clark and then put Kelsey and Jay to bed. I let Calla stay up because she was working on a puzzle with Pops. After Calla went to bed, we played some more games until, well, December 26. (-:
